The Menopause Society

Also called: NAMS, North American Menopause Society.

Definition: The Menopause Society — formerly the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) — is the leading professional society for menopause clinicians in North America, founded in 1989. It produces position statements, clinical guidelines, and the NCMP (Certified Menopause Practitioner) credential.

Detailed definition

The Menopause Society (formerly NAMS) is a nonprofit professional society headquartered in Pepper Pike, Ohio. It produces flagship position statements (notably the 2022 Hormone Therapy Position Statement, the 2017 GSM Position Statement, and others), the journal Menopause, and the NCMP (NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner) credential. The society renamed itself in 2023 to "The Menopause Society" to reflect its expanding international scope and contemporary terminology preference. Its position statements remain the most-cited evidence-based guidance on HRT in the United States.

Why it matters in menopause

When seeking a menopause-trained clinician, the NCMP credential is one useful indicator. ClearedRx clinicians work within Menopause Society-aligned standards.
