Menopause Symptom Score

Definition: A menopause symptom score is a brief self-assessment tool that quantifies symptom burden across multiple domains. ClearedRx uses an MRS-based 11-item Symptom Score to give patients a severity tier (none, mild, moderate, severe) and inform treatment recommendations.

Detailed definition

Symptom scores standardize the subjective experience of menopausal symptoms into reproducible numeric measures, useful for tracking change over time and for clinical research. The two most common are the MRS (Menopause Rating Scale) and MENQOL (Menopause-Specific Quality of Life). ClearedRx's Symptom Score tool uses the MRS framework, scoring 11 symptoms 0–4 each for a total of 0–44, and returning a severity tier with treatment-relevant guidance.

Why it matters in menopause

For women uncertain whether their symptoms warrant treatment, a validated symptom score gives a clear baseline and a way to measure improvement after starting therapy. Many women see their score drop substantially within 8–12 weeks of starting HRT, which is a useful objective marker of response.
