Source & methodology

The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) was developed in 1996 by the Berlin Center for Epidemiology and Health Research. It was validated against international samples by Heinemann, Potthoff, and Schneider in Health and Quality of Life Outcomes (2003). The 11 items, the 0–4 scoring per item, and the three-subscale grouping (somato-vegetative, psychological, urogenital) on this page exactly mirror the published instrument.

Severity tiers (0-4 none / 5-8 mild / 9-15 moderate / 16+ severe) are from the published validation literature. Treatment guidance for the moderate-and-up tiers reflects the 2022 NAMS Hormone Therapy Position Statement.
